Bafana Face Ghana in Pre-AFCON Showdown
South Africa will complete their preparations for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a significant friendly against Ghana next week.
The West Africans will travel to Gauteng for the match next Tuesday, 16 December, marking the final fixture on home soil before Bafana Bafana depart for Morocco the following day.
This game presents a tough challenge against a nation that has secured a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Coach Hugo Broos, who led the team to a bronze medal at the previous AFCON, has faced obstacles in his planning. During a recent interview, he stated: “I was hoping to start the camp a little earlier, but for the second time the [Premier Soccer League] didn’t want to co-operate because there is the final of the Carling Knockout Cup.”
South Africa are drawn into a demanding Group B for the continental tournament, where they will first face Southern African rivals Angola on 22 December, before taking on Egypt and Zimbabwe.
The final 25-man squad includes star striker Lyle Foster and experienced regulars like Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena.
